Pearland
Pearland, located on State Highway 35 in northern Brazoria County, was once just prairie land that produced multiple vegetables and fruits for its residents (cantaloupes, corn, figs, pears and watermelons). The railroad, advertising campaigns and hurricanes shaped the Pearland of today.
A hurricane destroyed much of Pearland in 1900. Many people left the area and the Allison-Richey Land Company began an advertising campaign promoting Pearland as a "Suburban Garden" (the name of the first subdivision promoted) where oranges could be grown in order to encourage new land owners to buy property. Following the destruction of the orange crop by a freeze, the company promoted the area for fig growing. Pearland began to grow again, but was hit by another hurricane in 1915. People left Pearland after the hurricane just as they did in 1900. This time, the emphasis was on advancement and infrastructural facilities.
Pearland is accessible to nearby parks, playgrounds, daycare centers and highly rated preschools which is critical for families with children. The proximity to good daycare centers is critical, especially if the parents work full-time. Pearland has a variety of childcare options for young families. According to an article from Houston Business Journal, a talented workforce with an outstanding quality of life is essential for economic growth. The Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) has consistently invested resources to ensure Pearland has an educated society and quality-of-place amenities to compete for talent, jobs and investment.
Some local well rated restaurants in close proximity are Magnolia Cajun Comfort, Killen's Barbecue & Grazia Italian Kitchen. Popular shopping centers: Pearland Town Center & Imperial Farmers Market.
